Florida Under weather

Almost two weeks in Florida, and not many photos to show for it. Visited to help Mom and Dad, who just returned from the hospital, so definitely not a net loss by any measure. But maybe I can meet up with some folks and go on a photo excursion next time!

I shot this through my folks' screen. Funny how the grid appears to be behind the subject matter.

Fourth of July Select

This year, I remembered the good camera, but I forgot the tripod. The saving grace for all of these photographs is that they were originally captured in RAW, which really helps you salvage any of the egregious issues in post processing. Most of the time was spent adjusting the levels to make the smoke less apparent. Taken at the Shoreline Amphitheatre, in Mountain View, CA. My top 13:

4th of July Photography

Fireworks at the San Jose America Festival in ...Image via Wikipedia
I'm hoping that i'll have presence of mind to have a good camera, lens, and tripod handy for the 4th of July this year. I've been meaning to try my hand at fireworks photography, but have never had anything more than just a point and shoot along with me at the time.

Digging through my prior email discussions, I compiled a few disjointed SLR related tips:

1. Shoot RAW if possible. You can then bypass a lot of white balance issues in Post Processing.
2. Aperture usually somewhere between  f/8 or f/11.
3. Put focus on manual and test if infinity or a little less than infinity focus setting works best for you.
4. Shoot low ISO if possible, you'll very likely be cropping your photographs since predicting the pattern of fireworks is a fools errand, and you'll also want to reduce the amount of noise in the photograph.

If all else fails: Get a tripod and use Shutter Priority setting, set it from 6 to 12 seconds.

Any other tips?

Wish me luck!

Lost and Found

After getting out of work today, I found this pewter-like rhinestone encrusted trinket of the Eiffel Tower on the ground in the parking lot. It was actually of pretty good quality, and the rhinestones were pretty shiny. I'd suspect someone would miss it. I took a few pics and put it back.

Next time I attempt this shot, I'll use a cleaner car top.  f/40mm @2.8
